New Year for NVAC@NUH

Hi everyone, how's your new year going so far?

It has been a great 2016 for NVAC@NUH! One of the highlights of our new start to 2017 is our Chinese New Year Celebration at NUH last Thursday:

Unfortunately, some of the volunteers had to leave before we manage to get a group photo.

Also, to kickstart the new volunteering semester, we held a Volunteer Orientation to welcome both the new and old volunteers. This has definitely allowed us to make new friends and know each another better!

After having little conversations among ourselves to get to know one another, we had our Volunteer Briefing:

Following which, we played the entertaining Human Bingo and Magic Word! Not to forget, we brought our volunteers to the individual wards and clinics to familiarise them with the hospital~ And... we took lots of group photos:

Adult Ward

It had been a really enjoyable day for us to meet and interact, especially in the midst of school's incoming work and project. A big thank you to the volunteers for coming down today for our Orientation!

Hope that you guys had a great start to the year too, and may we bring more joy and fun to the patients of NUH! :)

Christmas Celebration 2016

On 12/12, we celebrated Christmas in advance at the children ward, adult ward and psychiatric ward!

For the adult and psychiatric wards, we had a great time making Christmas-themed origami and playing Christmas Bingo with the patients:

As for the children ward, the children and the volunteers had fun making reindeer hats and decorating baubles which were super engaging. Also, Santa Claus came early this year giving Christmas gifts to the well-behaved children of NUH!

And, what's a christmas celebration without Christmas carolling? Special thanks to SHacapella, an awesome family of passionate vocalists from NUS Sheares Hall!

Look at their adorable reindeer ears!

Their angelic voices definitely gave off great Christmas vibes and brought smiles to the NUH patients, staff and volunteers.

Finally, a big thank you to our dear (deer) volunteers!

In this season of gifting and giving, we should not forget to give thanks to those whom we love and those who love us. Let's all show our appreciation and care for our loved ones!

Our Times with the Volunteers

What better way to kickstart the new semester of volunteering than an orientation filled with fun games and opportunities to make new friends?

Yesterday, we had our first date with our NVAC@NUH volunteers. Forget the typical ice-breaking games, we had an extremely fun time playing Magic Word and Human Bingo as we get to know more about each another.

Magic Word
Us trying to trick one another into saying their own magic word

Human Bingo
Our volunteers mingling with one another to find people that fit into the descriptions stated in their bingo sheet.
The winner gets to indulge in the delicious Twelve Cupcakes prizes!

And yay to our very first group photo!

Thereafter, we went to NUH to familiarise ourselves with the directions to our various wards and clinics.

We are really glad that the volunteers hit it off well and we even went for group lunch together! The bond forged would defintely allow us to spread the fun and liveliness to the patients of NUH.

Thanks for coming down this Saturday guys. And here's to more fun and meaningful volunteering time with all of you!

This the season to be jolly!

Merry Christmas Everybody! :)

On a lovely 14th December afternoon, NVAC@NUH held our annual Christmas Event!
Thank you all volunteers who came down and made this event possible. For the regular volunteers who could not make it, here's an update on what happened!

Activities included:
Christmas Carolling... Handicraft such as drawing/colouring/origami ... Giving our small Christmas Notes

Thank you volunteers for the small notes you have written for the patients:)
We also really appreciate your kind feedback on what could have been done better. We have noted down these details to help us better organise subsequent events like CNY which will be held next semester. Have a great Christmas and holiday season everyone, and hope that you continue to spread joy and laughter to those around you:)

Volunteers at the Psychiatric Ward

....and as another sem draws to a close, we hope that all our volunteers had a meaningful time spent with us and the patients.

See you guys in 2016!

First Date with our volunteers ;P

26th September was our very first time meeting our new volunteers! Thank you all who made the effort to join us for orientation even though it was recess week.

Settling down for the briefing for new volunteers

Nothing beats getting to know everyone's names through a game of Whacko.

Look at that victorious smile on our Chairperson Victor's face

After Whacko, we split into our various wards and had another round of ice breaking. Try finding yourselves in the following pics!

Children Ward

Adult and Psychiatric Ward

And of course with great games and people come great forfeits..

Hope everyone who came had a great time! Even though we had to squeeze in a small room for our games because of the very bad haze outside, we hope it helped brought everyone closer together. Take care and hope all our new volunteers have a very rewarding volunteering experience at NVAC@NUH!
