About Us

Introduction

The NVAC National University Hospital (NUH) volunteering project began in 2001. There are currently 5 divisions: Children Ward, Children Clinic, Adolescent Cabin, Adult Ward and Psychiatric Ward.

Objectives

We strive to enhance the quality of life of patients through interaction, art and play. We also aim to build rapport, in the hope that such effective influence will enhance and hasten the recovery phase of patients.

Activities

Once every week, our volunteers spend their time in the wards, playing and interacting with the patients.

In the Children’s Clinic and Ward, volunteers will get to engage the children in activities
such as arts and crafts, such as origami and
balloon sculpting, simple board and card
games and other educational activities such
as crosswords and puzzles.

In the Adult Ward, volunteers will be
involved in a new initiative, the Music
Therapy programme (MTP). During the
sessions, the volunteers will guide the
patients in playing simple percussion
instruments, like drums, shakers and
clappers. It doesn't matter whether
volunteers have a music background. The
objective is to bring joy and fun to the
patients! This MTP started on November 2013 and that session was a successful one, with patients giving feedback that they enjoyed it very much!

In the Adolescents’ Division, volunteers will
get to engage the adolescents in games such
as UNO, and in arts and crafts activities like
making friendship-bands and beading.

In the Psychiatric Ward, volunteers will get
the unique experience to interact with the
patients, and engage them in interesting
conversations. They will help nurses with
pre-arranged activities or play with them
card games or even table tennis.

At the end of each year, our volunteers organize an annual Christmas event for patients in the wards, to spread the joy of the festive season! Our volunteers delight the patients by singing carols, playing the guitar and giving them presents!
