A quick introduction by the committee...

KIRUBAASHINI

PROJECT DIRECTOR
Hi everyone! I am Kiru, the project director for NVAC@NUH for AY2013/14. Currently, I am a year 3 Project & Facilities Management student from SDE. This is my second year that I am with this project and serving in the committee and it has been a very fulfilling and fun experience. It has been wonderful interacting with the children in the clinic and the wards. I look forward to even more wonderful semesters of volunteering at NUH. Additionally, as part of the committee I hope to be able to provide more opportunities for NUS students and enable wonderful experiences for them.

KHAI CHYI LYE
VICE-PROJECT DIRECTOR
CHILDREN WARD
Hi! I’m Khai Chyi, the VPD of children’s ward division. This is my 3rd year volunteering in the project. Throughout the years, I’ve become an expert in balloon sculpting, monopoly and origami. However, this is not the reason why I volunteer. I choose to be part of the children’s ward team in order to bring fun and laughTers to the children, hoping that our presence will hasten their recovery. Voluntary work is like a two-way street; by helping others, we also learn something new. The most precious reward that I have gained was the smiles from the children. Volunteers and volunteers to be, let’s do our best in being the fun ambassadors!

REGINA HONG
VICE-PROJECT DIRECTOR
ADOLESCENT CABIN
Hi! I am Regina, VPD for Adolescent Cabin and this is my second year to be volunteering at the Cabin. I am really grateful to be given this second chance as I really enjoyed the weekly sessions with the adolescent patients. Though there are occasional hiccups such as cancelling our plans due to Cabin renovation and no patients in some sessions, every session is still a small break for me to learn, reflect and improve. I really hope that I have lightened the mood of the patients and inspire the volunteers to volunteerism through the small interactions. I enjoy learning and sharing experiences with the volunteers and really appreciate all the enthusiasm and cooperation. I will definitely put in more effort and hope we would all spread the volunteerism spirit! Thank you!

LIM JIE EN
VICE- PROJECT DIRECTOR
ADULT WARD
Hi everyone!  I am Jie En the VPD of the Adult Ward!  It has been a great journey so far.  Although this is my first year in NVAC, I really cherish the wonderful moments in the wards during each visit.  To be able to interact with the patients and share each other’s stories and laughter was very fulfilling indeed.  In 2013, we had our first music therapy session in November.  Though we started small, the positive feedback we received from the patients was very encouraging.  We look forward to developing this new program as we bring joy and music to the wards!

ELYSIA TAN
VICE-PROJECT DIRECTOR
PSYCHIATRIC WARD
Hi Everyone! :) I’m Elysia, year 3 psychology major. I’m the Vice-Project Director of the Psychiatric Ward in NUH NVAC. It’s my second year volunteering in this project, and I hope that volunteering has been as fulfilling for you guys as it has been for me. :) For volunteering sessions we do a wide variety of things, including playing board games, ball games, table tennis, as well as just talking to patients. We hope to be able to lend a listening ear to patients, as well as provide companionship to those that are receptive. Volunteering may seem intimidating, and it may not always be smooth sailing, but the occasional heartfelt thank you and appreciative smiles are worth it. Volunteering has also allowed me to form close friendships, and I hope that it will be the same for all of you. :)
For all current volunteers, a big thank you for volunteering with us :) and to those that are thinking of joining, do take that step out, and it will be a new and wonderful experience for you guys :)

LEONG YEE HUI
SECRETARY

Hello everyone! I’m Yee Hui, the secretary of NVAC@NUH. I’m a freshman majoring in business administration - accountancy currently. I’m volunteering in the Children’s Ward at NUH and it has been a wonderful experience during the sessions. I feel that it is very meaningful to talk to and play with the patients and try to uplift their moods. If any of you have any queries or feedback, feel free to approach me via fb or email me. J

Hello everyone!:) I am Priya, your Treasurer and also a Year 2 Life Sciences Major. I really hope to extend the message of volunteering and the satisfaction gained from it to as many volunteers as possible. And I hope to utilise the funds in our committee as effectively as possible to increase the scale of our volunteering efforts and to increase the number of activities and events organized by NVAC@NUH committee. Through more resources pumped in, I hope that we can expand our volunteers’ database and continue to gather constructive feedback to help NUH patients stay happy, motivated and optimistic as always. As a volunteer myself, I hope that my contributions would assist in attaining these goals as well. Thank you! J

BUVENESWARI
EVENTS DIRECTOR
Hello! I am Buvenes, a Year 3 PFM student and the Events Director. I have been a volunteer at NUH since my second year at NUS. I really enjoyed my volunteering sessions and also liked interacting with my fellow volunteers. Hence, as the Events Director my aim is to ensure that the volunteers from the various sessions have an opportunity to bond and share their experiences with each other. I really hope that all of you will participate in our future events!

JULIANA CHARLES
